So, I was writing a lecture report for my Christianity and Pop Culture class about the gendered identities/stereotypes of women in advertising and film when I came across an underlined word.

I made the point that a woman can only be a whore or an angel in commercials, it is the Madonna complex. When I wrote this sentence my “Pages” program on my Mac underlined the word “whore.” I knew I had spelled the word right so I wanted to see what is it that was wrong with the word, the explanation read as follows; “Sexist expression. The word may offend some readers because it is pejorative and can only be applied to women.”

Wait. So you’re telling me only women are whores basically? Oh. So of course, I went to Webster’s dictionary online and looked it up and it said…..

Definition of a WHORE

1) a woman who engages in sexual acts for money: prostitute; also: a promiscuous or immoral woman

2) a male who engages in sexual acts for money

3) a venal or unscrupulous person

You see #2, where it says MALE? Yeah, me too. So my Macintosh is sexist basically. It clearly can be applied to a man also. I didn’t know it was for males who prostitute themselves, but nonetheless it is still applicable to males.

Another issue I take with this is, why does it have to be immoral? Who’s morals are whores trying to keep up with?

The other day the Ontario Court of Appeals greenlighted brothels. Does this change our province’s morals?

It is LEGAL to hire drivers, bodyguards and support staff.

It is ILLEGAL for pimps to exploit sex workers.

It is LEGAL to now work in organized brothels.

It is ILLEGAL to openly solicit customers on the street.

So whores are alright now, as long as they’re in private. I will explain my work in a swingers club in a later post, but a quick walk up Jarvis  will show you the dangers of being a whore. (I’m obviously using the term pejoratively because my Macintosh told me to do so)

Where the male whores at? I want to know where they frequent. Are they beaten by their pimps? Are they openly soliciting on the street? If men and women are equal, I want to know where the male brothels are. Will there be any?

I don’t really know how I went from my Mac calling me a whore to talking about brothels in Ontario but I think I made some valid points. LOL. I call men and women whores equally. I do not use it negatively however. Everyone has a different level of “whoreness” and I am the last to judge anyone’s sexuality. A virgin may deem someone with one sexual partner a whore, an experienced sexual being may deem someone more experienced than them a whore etc. Basically, everyone can be a whore. Yes, EVERYONE. Not just women. Yes, that’s where I was going with this.

Whores don’t care for YOUR morals. Everyone has their own moral code. I just have to ask, are those “general” morals changing? If Ontario is allowing brothels, maybe it is. Some whores may go to church more than you do. Some whores may make more money than people who sit on welfare. Some whores may be volunteers at food banks. Some whores may have a PhD. Don’t judge whores like my Mac does. Ontario is obviously loosening up on it, maybe you should too.
